St. Xavier’s Society, Maharo, Dumka is a registered charitable society working in Jharkhand with a strong focus on inclusive education, rural development, and social upliftment. The Society is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 and holds registration under Section 12A of the Income Tax Act, 1961, enabling it to receive charitable support for approved public purposes.
The Society’s registered office is located at Maharo, Dumka, and its area of operation is the State of Jharkhand. Its Memorandum of Association defines it as a charitable body established to undertake educational, health, and social service activities. It is mandated to establish and manage colleges, schools, training centres, research institutions, community-development centres, health centres, and human-resource-development initiatives for the benefit of all, irrespective of caste, creed, language, or social status.
The Society’s principal educational institution is St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Maharo, Dumka, established in 2011. The college serves the Santhal Parganas region, one of Jharkhand’s historically underserved areas. It is affiliated to Sido Kanhu Murmu University and offers courses across Humanities, Science, Commerce, BBA, and BCA. The college has 37 teaching staff, a 17:1 student-faculty ratio, NAAC B+ accreditation, and AICTE approval for professional programmes.
The Society’s work directly addresses the educational needs of rural, tribal, first-generation, and economically disadvantaged learners. Across the college and associated educational institutions, nearly 90% of students are from tribal communities, with others largely from OBC, Dalit, and economically weaker rural backgrounds. Girls’ education is a major area of impact, especially through hostel support, which enables young women from remote villages to continue higher education safely.
The Society has a defined governance and financial structure, including a Governing Body, proper fund management, regular accounting, and audit by a registered Chartered Accountant. Its funds and assets are to be used solely for its stated charitable objectives.
CSR support can strengthen educational infrastructure, smart classrooms, STEM labs, computer facilities, hostels, libraries, sanitation, drinking water, scholarships, skill development, and employability programmes. A partnership with St. Xavier’s Society will directly invest in tribal and rural youth, especially young women, in one of Jharkhand’s most deserving regions.
